Great Alfred
Wednesday December 1, 2004
He was the only English king ever to be called "Great." And why

rule, managed to resist a fierce Danish incursion, fostered
education, and even translated Latin works by Boethius and Pope
Gregory into English himself. Find out more about this great
king in our Who's Who resource.
