When we think of medieval documents, we think of parchment, right? Animal skin, usually sheepskin, made thin and flexible and ready to take ink that was just as carefully-prepared. Or vellum, usually somewhat finer and made from calf skin. We don't generally think of a charter or legal document of any kind being recorded on . . . a rock.

But that is just what Visigoths in Spain did with some of their charters. Blogger Jonathan Jarrett shares a photo and some interesting info at his blog, A Corner of Tenth-Century Europe.
