A Medieval Toilet Fit for Scrooge McDuck

Thursday August 2, 2007
Carly Pyrdum's blog about medieval themed toilets got me thinking about whether or not I'd ever want to live in the Middle Ages. I didn't have to think long. The answer is still "no," for lots of health and hygiene reasons, not least of which would be the lack of toilets as we know them. There were chamber pots (in more well-off households) and the good old hole-in-the-bench in the garderobe, but no flushing toilets. However, anyone who wants a medieval-themed bathroom shouldn't let the facts get in the way of their privy decor. And I agree: who wants a toilet named for Childeric III?

Thanks, Carl, for the chuckles:
