The Book of Kells

Wednesday August 8, 2007
Here's a book that I wish I had on my bookshelf: The Book of Kells, a splendid illuminated manuscript. This astonishingly well-preserved edition of the Four Gospels is Ireland's most precious medieval artifact, and one of the finest medieval manuscripts in existence. Created in the early 8th century, probably on the Scottish Isle of Iona, The Book of Kells has a long and eventful history that makes its survival quite miraculous.
