Viking Ship Completes 1,000-Mile Journey
Thursday August 16, 2007
The replica Viking ship Stallion of the Sea has made it to Dublin, proving the seaworthiness of Viking ship construction in the process. The modern-day sailors, aided by modern navigational equipment and safety measures, didn't quite get the job done by themselves -- they had to be towed part of the way. The original Vikings would probably laugh and make disparaging remarks. But as I sit here in my air-conditioned study in front of my pretty computer sucking down a Mountain Dew Code Red and listening to Aerosmith on my iTunes, I can only say "Well done!"
Find out more about the ship, the voyage, the sailors, their reception in Dublin and the (perhaps long-overdue) apology for medieval Viking raids in this article at the Guardian Unlimited.
