Medieval church paintings will be saved
Monday January 5, 2009
Thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, rare paintings in a Suffolk church will be preserved. The paintings in St. Mary's Church, Lakenheath, date from the Middle Ages and depict angels, birds, the local saint (Edmund) and scenes from the life of Jesus. They are highly unusual and may have been initially funded by the community. For more on the paintings and the preservation plans, check out the article by Dave Gooderham at EADT.
