Saxon burial ground discovered

Wednesday February 4, 2009
Those fabulous metal detectors have done it again. This time, a 1500-year-old Saxon burial ground was uncovered by two members of the Eastbourne District Metal Detecting Club: Bob White and Cliff Smith. The skeletons of a man and two women were accompanied by weapons and jewelry, among other artifacts. Mr. White and Mr. Smith could be entitled to a reward, but Bob noted that their names would go down in the history books. "To find the unknown is reward enough. That's priceless," he said. I don't know about the history books, but I'm pleased to record their names here. Way to go, Bob and Cliff!

Both the articles at BBC News and at 24dash.com have some nice photos.
