This week we're visiting the "Bad Old Days" -- one form of an email that circulated for years, and which you might have seen in your in-box. It's filled with humorous explanations for common phrases, connecting them to outrageous claims about life in the Middle Ages. It started as a joke, but as it circulated and people altered the content a bit, it seemed to present itself as authoritative fact. Just to set the record straight I've debunked the claims in my feature, The Bad Old Days.
There are quite a few ridiculous statements in the joke, including nonsense about personal hygiene, food and drink, and households. My question for you is: Which two parts of the joke concern pewter? Clearly, "Lead Cups" is one; but what is the other? Browse The Bad Old Days and find out; and maybe the silliness will bring you a chuckle while you're at it.
