In the early 19th century, in a Benedictine monastery in Bavaria, a collection of songs and plays was discovered. Written by wandering scholars known as Goliards, the songs would prove a significant resource for understanding medieval music, and they would influence a modern composer whose work would appear in so many films, TV shows and commercials it would infiltrate our popular subconscious.
