Medieval Clip Art

Castles

Nothing evokes the medieval era more potently than the image of a towering castle. In the spirit of keeping that romantic vision alive, I've created a few free clip art castles for you to use as you see fit.

All of the images on this page except the title graphic are transparent .gifs. You can use them on any background you like, but lighter backgrounds work best.

To use the image in your web page, please download the graphic and upload it to your server. Linking directly to images on another server is considered "bandwidth robbery" and the depth of bad nettiquette.

If you put any of these graphics on your web page, I hope you'll be so kind as to credit me and include a link back to this site.

Page breaks, a background and more icons can be found at the end of this page.

As romantic as castles seem to us today, their original purpose was a defensive one. At the same time they were home to dozens, even hundreds of people.

This imposing fortress was inspired by Pembroke Castle.

The stout and sturdy structure below is based on a tower at Castle Usk.

Blarney-inspired castle

Blarney Castle was the inspiration for the towering edifice above.

High walls and towers were significant defensive features that made it difficult for invaders to enter castle grounds.

This mighty tower and arched gate was inspired by the entryway to Ashford Castle.

Kamianets-Podilsky-inspired castle

The jaunty roofs and rambling buildings here are based on the fortifications at Kamianets-Podilsky.

Those of you who have visited my first clip art page will recognize this stalwart castle, included on this page for your convenience.

castle wall page break

The castle walls above and below make more interesting page breaks than plain old horizontal rules. These are 5.5 inches long.

Longer versions (approximately 7 inches) are also available. Click any wall to go to a page with both sizes, each in ten designer colors!

This textured background is light enough for most text to show up clearly. Click the sample to see what it looks like on a web page with text and images.
