Justinian reclaimed portions of Italy, rebuilt the Hagia Sophia and wrote the legal code. His wife, Theodora, was also a force to be reckoned with; she helped Justinian handle the Nika revolt and sponsored laws protecting women. After she died, his productivity dropped noticeably, and some scholars believe she was the impetus behind many of his achievements.
