Submit a website for inclusion in the Medieval History subject directory

The Medieval History site, just like any other site at About, is not an ordinary search engine or directory. Every web page we link to in our directory is visited by the Guide, who evaluates the page for its content, its usefulness to visitors, and its appropriate placement among the subject categories before adding it to the directory.

This means that Yours Truly heads out on the net every week or so and seeks out informative websites related to medieval and Renaissance studies. There are thousands of pages out there with information you can use, and my mission is to see to it that you can find those pages quickly, easily, and without a lot of clicking.

However, while I use every technique known to websurfers to find these pages for you, some of the best sites on the net are undiscovered gems, and will remain undiscovered until someone tells me about them.

That's where you come in! If you know of a history-related site that you'd like to see listed in our net links, you can send me the URL.

But before you do...

Please take into consideration our linking policy.

Sites that do not conform to the linking policy will not be included.

And please, please note that this is a Medieval History site and not a general directory! If the site you'd like to recommend does not pertain to the study of history, do not bother submitting it for consideration. But please do take a look at some of the 700+ other sites at About to see which site (or sites) would be best for indexing your web page.

Please check to see that the site is not already listed here.

The quickest way to do this is to use this site's search function. The search box is at the top of this page and every page at this site. Simply type a keyword or phrase from the title of your page into the box, select "this site" and click "go." You'll then have to check the individual pages of the search results to see if your site is listed in one of those pages.

If the name of the website's author or webmaster is somewhere on his site, you may wish to search for that. I always try to credit authors by name in the description of the link. Look for "John Knobbly," and check the results to see which websites by John Knobbly are included in the directory.

Since I do not link to splash screens or link lists, the main page of a site may not be indexed, but sub-pages may be linked in several different net link categories. Try searching for the key words for some of the pages within your site.

Please make sure the site is ready for consideration.

Websites are always works in progress. Your site doesn't have to be perfect or any approximation of "complete," but it should have something available that contains useful historical content. Maintaining more than a thousand links is time-consuming enough without having to check back to see if a site is ready. Please wait until the is ready before submitting the link.

If you believe the site conforms to our linking policy and you haven't found it among our net links, it's time to...

Submit It!

To submit your site via email, just send an email message to historymedren.guide@about.com with "Site Suggestion" in the subject line. Type the URL or URLs of the pages you would like reviewed, each on a line all by itself, in the body of the message. Be sure to begin each URL with "http://"  If at all possible, please do not format the email in html.

Please include a brief description of what's available at the site, and if at all possible, tell me which subject category it would fit.

I look forward to hearing from you, and I appreciate your help in making the Medieval History site at About.com the best starting place for exploring medieval studies on the web.
