1492:

Edict expelling Jews from Spain issued

The "Catholic Monarchs" Ferdinand and Isabella saw purity of religion as a significant goal for Spain. Having recaptured Granada from the Moors, the Jews were the next to go. The official reason for the expulsion was that the Jewish community influenced the Marranos to remain Jewish, but the real reasons involved religious zeal and greed for the wealth of the Jewish community.
