This siege of the
Hundred Years' War had begun on Oct. 12, 1428, and was
at last lifted when Joan of
Arc persuaded King
Charles VII of France to send an army to relieve the
city. Thanks to diversionary action against one of the
English forts, Joan herself was able to enter Orléans
with supplies on April 30, and in the days that followed the
principle English forts were stormed. The English then
abandoned the siege.
