Richard II makes promises to rebels |
|
The Peasants' Revolt had reached its boiling point when 20,000 rebels camped at the gates of London demanding changes in the oppressive English serf system. Militarily short-handed, the royal council sent the 14-year old king, Richard II, out to parley with the peasants. As he did so, a contingent of rebels led by Wat Tyler infiltrated London and proceeded to wreak havoc on the city. |
