St. Silverius consecrated as bishop

Silverius was nominated to the papacy by the Ostrogothic king, Theodahad, in an attempt to forestall the appointment by Empress Theodora of the pro-monophysite Anthimus. He was later deposed, falsely accused of treason, degraded to the rank of monk and banished. He died, possibly murdered, on the isle of Palmaria.
