Olaf II Haraldsson

Saint Olaf was the first effective king of all Norway. He conquered territory that had been part of Denmark and Sweden, pushed incessantly for the acceptance of Christianity, and created a religious code that is considered Norway's first national legislation.

1099:

Urban II

Following the lead set by Pope Gregory VII in ecclesiastical reform, Urban II enhanced the political power of the papacy and initiated the Crusade movement.
