Lucius III Elected Pope

Lucius founded the medieval inquisition when he decreed the excommunication of heretics and their protectors. He was forced to leave Rome due to an earlier declaration by the city making it a republic free from papal interference.

1339:

Edward Declares War

The Hundred Years' War officially began when King Edward III of England declared war on France.

1422:

Henry VI Becomes King of England

Upon the death of his father, Henry V, 9-month-old Henry VI became king of England. He was not, however, officially crowned until he was eight.

 

WHO DIED

1159:

Adrian IV

Born Nicholas Breakspear, Adrian IV was the only English pope in history.
