1428:

Siege of Orléans Begins

The siege of Orléans lasted until Joan of Arc persuaded King Charles VII of France to send an army to relieve the city in April.

1492:

Columbus Discovers America

Land was spotted from the Pinta on the 12th, and the next day Columbus came ashore on the Bahamian island of Guanahaní. Until his dying day, Columbus was convinced he had found a route to India by going west, and denied his discovery of a new continent.

 

WHO WAS BORN

1537:

King Edward VI

Only son of King Henry VIII, Edward was born to Henry's third wife, Jane Seymour. He became king while he was 9 years old and died while still in his teens.

 

WHO DIED

638:

Pope Honorius I

Honorius was condemned posthumously for heresy, raising the question of papal infallibility.

642:

Pope John IV

In John's brief pontificate he fought against monothelitism, sent an emissary to redeem captured Balkan Christians, and defended the late Honorius.
