1016:

Canute I victorious at Ashingdon

After engaging Edmund Ironside in several battles, Canute scored this significant victory, and Edmund agreed to divide England between himself and Canute. At the end of November, however, Edmund died, and Canute became king of all England.

Chlotar II

Merovingian king Chlotar II ruled the Franks from 613 until his death.

John restored Roman churches, and was noted for his devotion to the Virgin Mary.
