Can I use your article for my homework?
You have blanket permission to use any feature at the Medieval History site for your homework or research paper, as long as you treat it like any published material. This means you should quote it and cite your source.
To cite my entire website, it's sufficient to give the URL of the site in the text. For example, "According to Medieval History at About (http://historymedren.about.com)..." To cite an article or page on my site, use the following format:
Snell, Melissa. "The Keepers of Knowledge." Medieval History at About. Retrieved March 7, 2001 from the World Wide Web: http://historymedren.about.com/library/weekly/aa010798.htm

You may print out on your printer any article and attach it to your homework, if necessary. Many features have "printer-friendly versions" you can reach from the end of the last page. If your printer is not set up to include the URL in the footer or header of your document, and if the portion you are printing does not display the address, please write it somewhere on the page. And best of luck with your homework!

I'd like to print one of your features or use your clip art in our publication.
I am always delighted when someone finds my work worthy of inclusion in their publication, and chances are very good that I'll say "yes!" However, the About legal department needs a few facts to keep everything kosher. Whether your publication is a sale product or a free newsletter, please send me the following details:

  • The name of the person responsible for the publication
  • Email address
  • Snail mail address
  • Fax number
  • The name of your publication
  • The URL of the article to be reprinted (http://historymedren.about.com/etc.)

Email this information to historymedren.guide@about.com, allowing seven to ten business days for a response. And thank you for your interest!

Can I reproduce your material on my website?
If you are using information from one of my features in an article you are producing for the web, the provisions of fair use apply; that is, you may quote and cite the work like you would any publication. When you do so, please include a live link to the appropriate page at the Medieval History site in your references. I would appreciate it if you would email me the URL of your article, so I can check it out, but it is not required.
Please keep in mind that what income Guides make from their sites comes from advertising revenue generated when visitors access our web pages. If you would like to duplicate my material on your site, please contact me for permission at
historymedren.guide@about.com. Include what you want to duplicate, where it would show up, and why you cannot include a link to the page instead.

Can I use your clip-art on my website?
All the clip-art at the Medieval History site that was created by your Guide is free for your use on another website, as long as you provide a link to the Medieval History site. I would appreciate it if you would email me the URL of your website, so I can check it out, but it is not required.
