The search for King Alfred's bones begins

Excavators have begun to dig up a parking lot in Winchester in the search for the remains of King Alfred the Great. For more information see the all-too-brief article at Fox News.

Have the English forgotten the Norman Invasion?

A French historian claims that Brits have forgotten their Norman heritage and ignored the contribution to British history made by William the Conqueror and his fellow invaders. For more infomration see the article by Adam Sage in the Sunday Times, UK.

New in the Bookstore

The fascinating and informative work Life in a Medieval City by Joseph and Frances Gies has been added to our selection of books. Visit your Guide's bookstore and give it and some of the other interesting titles a click!

Medieval Minutia

By the thirteenth century, book copying was no longer the sole province of monasteries. Copyists were often located near cathedrals or universities to fill the demand for texts made by schools. A copyist also often served as a secretary for those who could not write themselves or for anyone who wanted something written in a particularly fine hand.

New Quizlet

Due to a quizlet system error, our statistics were cleared sometime last week. The current statistics reflect only a partial tally of participants. However, the quizlet continued to work and provided the correct answer to those who clicked on one of the given choices. I regret any inconvenience this glitch may have caused.

Our latest question concerns royal saints. Do you know the answer?
