The Dark Age Quiz
Germanic, or Teutonic, peoples were by no means the only tribes to establish communities and kingdoms in the early medieval period, but there were more active tribes speaking Germanic languages than tribes speaking any other type of language at the end of the western Roman empire. The Germanic tribes included the Angles and Saxons who went to Britain, where the language that evolved among them became known to us as Old English.
In addition to Germanic languages, some European tribes spoke languages belonging to the Celtic and Slavic language groups; and in various regions, Latin also began to evolve into Romance languages like French and Italian. Germanic, Romance, Celtic and Slavic languages all belong to the Indo-European language group.
