The Dark Age Quiz
Attila came to be known as "the Scourge of God" for the devastation he and the Huns wreaked in their westward progress towards Rome. The advance of the Huns caused some Germanic peoples to seek refuge within the borders of the Empire. After suffering a setback at the Battle of Chalons in 451, Attila turned toward Italy, and was rather surprisingly dissuaded from attacking by Pope Leo I. He may have considered changing his mind, but he died on his wedding night, allegedly from a nosebleed and possibly by murder.
