Queen Elizabeth I
I would like the chance to meet and talk to one the most influencial woman of her era. An era dominated by powerful men and a male-dominated church and society. I did a reseach paper long ago on Queen Elizabeth 1 and I find that I'm still fascinated by the woman and her court. To meet the Queen Elizabeth 1 and, such as Sir Walter Raleigh and the Earl of Essex.

The date: around 1588. This date seems to be a important period in her reign.

I don't think people should try to change the past if they could. It could upset the world's history, possibly it's existance. If I could take something back and have it discovered earlier-- it would be penicillin.

I would like to go back to the year 1271, because the person I would most like to meet is Llewelyn ap Gruffudd (Llewelyn the Last), the great Prince of Wales. I chose the year because that was the time when he was at the height of his power and influence. It would also be interesting, I think, to meet his brother, Dafydd, to see if he was indeed as charming as he was reputed to be.

Assuming he would believe me, I would readily outline what he could expect from the English King Edward I and others in upcoming years, most especially and urgently the ambush which led to his untimely death. After the trip, it would be interesting to discover whether such an intervention would have resulted in a free and independent Wales.

As for your guide's choice... well, I admit I was sorely tempted to choose Richard III. It's hard to resist the thought of returning to that point in time when King Richard held the fate of three men in his hands and let two live who would destroy him. Bringing back ample evidence of how his good name was darkened by one (Morton) and how he would be betrayed by the other (Stanley) might be enough to convince him to have them executed for the treason they committed, instead of pardoning them in a misguided, though noble, effort at mercy.

However, as much as the concept of righting a terrible injustice attracts me, the thought of radically changing history concerns me even more. How many people would die -- or never be born -- as a result of the chain of events I could set in motion? What if my interference kept one of my direct ancestors from meeting the mother of his children? That is a temporal paradox I'd rather not chance!

Besides, as much as I admire Richard for his loyalty and leadership, one personality intrigues me even more for his creativity and sheer genius. To find out who that is, please go on to page two.
