Lanfranc
Lanfranc was a Benedictine monk who was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury by William the Conqueror. His excellent relationship with the king helped maintain good relations between England and the papacy. Lanfranc successfully reformed and reorganized the English Church, uncovered a plot against the Conqueror, and secured the succession for William's son Rufus.
