About this bulletin board
Q. What can we post here?
A. Anything related to medieval history and the Renaissance is fair game, and this is not limited to Europe. If you have questions about, for example, Medieval Japan, by all means post them here. Your guide can't know the answer to every possible question concerning medieval history or even know where to find the answer (although she'll certainly try her best), but someone out there just might be able to help. So, no matter how obscure or esoteric the topic, as long as it is related to the middle ages or the Renaissance, feel free to post it.Theories and ideas are welcome too, as long as you label them as theories or as your own personal opinion. Failing to differentiate between speculation and established fact will bring on a host of comments from regular visitors, not all of them pleasant.
Q. What can't we post here?
A. Foul language, flames or personal insults, advertising, defamatory statements, and anything protected under copyright law are strictly prohibited and will be removed from the board as soon as the sysop sees them. Repeated violations of these rules will result in the user's permanent ban from the board.
Q. What if I want to quote copyrighted material?
A. As with any paper you might write for a class, please provide the source for any quote or paraphrased material. The title of the book or article, the journal it's published in (or the website URL it's published on) and the author is all that's required, although any additional reference you'd like to provide would be useful. In other words, as long as you make it clear that the quote was written by someone who isn't you, and tell us who that someone is and where he wrote it, the post will be just fine.
Q. Is this a "child safe" board?
A. No. The medieval era was a highly volatile period full of violence, adultery, murder, corruption, and even more shocking events. If you have a child who has an interest in medieval history, please try to take a quick look at the posts here before you let him or her see them. Furthermore, while offensive posts will be regularly removed, the board is not monitored constantly, so you'll never know what you see until you get here.
Q. How long will posts stay on the board?
A. Indefinitely.
Q. Will I be able to use this board to get answers for my homework?
A. If you're not in a hurry, maybe. But there's never any telling if you'll get any answer at all, let alone a correct one, or when someone who knows what you're looking for will happen to drop by the board. Your guide makes frequent visits, but as noted above, she can't know the answer to every question! In spite of the massive amount of information available on the web, your best bet for getting answers is still your local or school library. Try there first and try there early.
Q. Do I need to become a member?
A. Only if you want to post a question. You can browse all you like by clicking the "Guest" button. Then, if you find a post you'd like to respond to or think of something you'd like to say, you can go back and register.
