Definition: The Abbadids were a Muslim dynasty that ruled Andalusia in southern Spain from 1023 to 1091. The kingdom was founded by Abu al-Kasim Muhammad ibn Abbad, a qadi (religious judge) in Seville, then governed by his son and grandson. The Abbadids saw some success in military matters and made Seville a center of culture and learning until they were betrayed and defeated by Almoravid sympathizers.
