The Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry is generally considered the finest Book of Hours ever produced. The work was commissioned by Jean, Duc de Berry, the third son of King John II the Good of France and the most renowned patron of the arts of his day. The Très Riches Heures was painted by the Limbourg Brothers from 1413 to 1416, except for a few panels completed by Jean Colombe between 1485 and 1489.
The most well-known part of Très Riches Heures is the calendar, made up of twelve extraordinary paintings, but they are only part of the fabulous book of hours. Check back soon for more illuminations as selected by your Guide.
