Boon-work

By Melissa Snell, About.com

Definition: Generally, boon-work referred to the obligation of peasants to work a certain number of days each week for the lord they were dependent on, most commonly on his land (the demesne). However, in certain circumstances, boon-work could mean a day's work given to the lord by his serfs or vassals for no compensation, in honor of a special occasion, such as the lord's wedding or the birth of a son.
