Any theological belief that did not conform to offical doctrine was considered heresy, and the Catholic Church viewed heretics as enemies of society. To combat the danger of heresy the Church created Inquisition, a judicial tool used to investigate heretics and bring them back to the fold. There are many misconceptions about Inquisition.
