Christine's earliest works were love ballads dedicated to her late husband, but she soon turned to prose that extolled the virtues of women. Her most famous work is The Book of the City of Ladies, in which she uses real historic examples of notable women to show how women have been unjustly treated through the centuries. It is believed to have been inspired by 's Famous Women. Here is a manuscript page from the work; the illustration can be seen in finer detail on the next page.
