1128: Templars receive the rules of their order


WHO WAS BORN

1381: Saint Colette
Colette reformed the Poor Clares and founded the Colettine Poor Clares with the support of antipope Benedict XIII.


WHO DIED

1599: Edmund Spenser
Spenser, who is best known for his masterpiece The Faerie Queene, was born into a poor family and acquired his education through the sponsorship of others and by working to pay his way. He is one of the most significant authors of the English Renaissance and contributed many fine works to the body of English literature during his short life.
