Tree Rings and Culture

What can tree rings tell us about our past? Firstly, they can tell scientists, through the technique of dendrochonology, when and where a particular piece of wood originated. From there scholars can determine approximately when a particular structure was built or boat constructed; they can see for any given area when there were building booms, whether or not wood was imported, and if there was a timber market.
