Medieval Couples

By February 14, 2013

Follow me on:

In historical literature, the medieval era is often depicted as a particularly amorous time. Knights rescuing damsels in distress; authors inspired by their muses; ladies and lords finding love in spite of society's strictures -- how can the true romantic keep from sighing at such stories of passion and sacrifice? And how could the real Middle Ages possibly measure up?

Believe it or not, the "real" Middle Ages were filled with some remarkable couples, both historical and fictional. In fact, modern romances can't hold a candle to Arthur and Guinevere, Tristan and Isolde, or Eric and Enid. And don't get me started on the real life romance of Abelard and Heloise. (Now it's my turn to sigh.)
