Henry I crowned King of England

On the day of his coronation, Henry I issued a charter that promised not to exploit church vacancies, guaranteed "just and legitimate" reliefs, and indicated a return to the laws of Edward the Confessor. His desire to tone down the oppressive Norman government was accompanied by an interest in winning control of Normandy, as well.
