This Week's Feature
Book Break: Uppity Women of Medieval Times
Take a break and have a look at this amusing and informative book, reviewed by your Guide this week.
Announcement
Your Guide is taking a two-week hiatus. I'll occasionally be able to check my email and the bulletin board but I will not be able to access the net every day, nor will I have an opportunity to update the site.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the site should be updated again, with new links and a new feature, on September 11.
Medieval Minutia
The use of gargoyles originated in the need for something to channel rainwater from the roof of cathedrals and other structures; this the grotesque statues did by pouring the water out their mouths. Thus, the word "gargoyle" is derived from the Old French word for "throat."
