
Saint Anthony of Padua
A Franciscan friar and Doctor of the Church, Anthony (also Antony) joined the order in hopes of preaching to the Saracens and possibly facing a martyr's death. Instead he became a respected teacher and gained fame for his miracles. He is a patron saint of the poor and oppressed.
